Dining out in this affluent Long Island community got a lot more exciting when De Caro Restaurant Group opened Baang Café & Bar at Woodbury Commons in November 2000. Sister restaurant to the acclaimed Baang in Greenwich, Connecticut, this restaurant, having received "EXCELLENT" reviews from the New York Times, blends the best of East and West, serving vividly flavorful cross-cultural cuisine in a lively, high-design setting. Baang, whose name means to bind or tie together in Chinese, blends French culinary techniques, Asian flavors, and the finest fresh American ingredients.

Diners at Baang indulge themselves with family-style platters piled high with delicious Asian accented specialties cooked with the flair of two master chefs. Popular appetizers include seared spicy shrimp rolls wrapped in rice paper with avocado salsa, sumo crab dumplings flavored with miso and served with green chile vinaigrette, and unforgettable tempura tuna sashimi -- sushi-grade raw tuna and a delicate crisp crust -- moistened with champagne-uni sauce. Crackling calamari salad, lightly fried squid tossed in hot chile oil, miso and lime juice, is served on a bed of baby greens.

Main courses at Baang are based on Eastern tradition, updated with imagination and skill. Crispy Peking duck arrives with scallion pancakes and a black vinegar sauce that perfectly offsets the richness of the duck. A lighter choice is the charred rare tuna with avocado and tomato wasabi vinaigrette or the ginger-marinated wok-fired whole fish (the variety depends on the season) with red chile dipping sauce that never fails to delight.

A selection of side dishes includes stir-fried sesame citrus noodles, vegetable brown rice, bamboo steamed assorted vegetables, and Baang's signature crispy spinach. Desserts are not to be missed here.

Located in Woodbury, New York in the upscale Woodbury Commons shopping center, Baang's dramatic interior, full of flair and fun, features muted colors in the main dining room, exposed ceilings and an exhibition kitchen, perfect for watching the chef's in action. A flower-filled terrace is the perfect place to enjoy an al fresco meal.
